He holds advanced degrees in Computer Science, an MPhil, and an MBA. A cybersecurity expert and entrepreneur, he has collaborated with firms like Capgemini and Land Rover. Deeply committed to community service, he has led charitable initiatives, championed youth development, and served as Deputy Mayor in 2023 before becoming Enfield’s first Bangladesh-born Mayor in 2024. His career in cybersecurity and software engineering has seen him work with global giants like Capgemini, CAP HPI, and Land Rover, bringing his expertise to the forefront of technological innovation. Alongside his professional pursuits, he has remained deeply involved in community service, serving as a union representative for USDAW and actively participating in the University of Roehampton’s Student Union. As the founding chairman of the Roehampton Entrepreneur Society, he championed initiatives that empowered young entrepreneurs.
His dedication to philanthropy and youth development is evident through his work as the founding chairman of Nexzen Society in Enfield, a charitable organisation focused on uplifting young people. His leadership extended beyond the UK as he contributed to several charitable organisations in Bangladesh, including the SAEF Foundation, a highly respected NGO. Additionally, he has played a vital role in the Bangladesh Welfare Association of Enfield and serves on the advisory committee of Jalalia Jamme Masjeed in Enfield.
Politically, Mohammad Islam has been an active member of the Labour Party since 2016, advocating for BAME representation and economic development. In 2022, he was elected as a councillor for Ponders End Ward, where he has lived for most of his life. His leadership roles include serving on the Planning Committee and chairing the Regeneration and Economic Development Scrutiny Committee. His historic election as the first Bangladesh-born Mayor of Enfield in 2024 is a testament to his unwavering dedication to public service.
