As the Principal and Correspondent of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, she leads 7,000 students and 500 faculty members, fostering excellence in higher education.
Her contributions span environmental science, biotechnology, and microbiology, with numerous research publications and international collaborations, including an MoU with the University of Miyazaki, Japan. Dr. Amthul Azeez is a distinguished academician, researcher, and edupreneur with over 26 years of experience in educational planning, administration, teaching, training, research, and institutional growth. She is a dynamic leader, committed to the empowerment of women through education at Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, a 70-year-old institution in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Rooted in the legacy of a college founded by Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed, known as the “Sir Syed of South,” Dr. Azeez believes that the institution’s motto, “Learning is light from God,” symbolises the transformative power of knowledge. Having nurtured over 100,000 women graduates, the college has become a beacon of empowerment, and Dr. Azeez has played a crucial role in shaping its success.
Her journey in academia began as a lecturer, steadily rising through the ranks to become Assistant Head of the Department, Vice Principal, and eventually the first Principal cum Correspondent of the college. Now leading an institution with over 7,000 students and 500 faculty members, she has been instrumental in elevating its academic and administrative standards.
Under her leadership, the college became ISO-certified, reflecting her dedication to quality learning and global higher education facilitation. A passionate researcher, Dr. Azeez has made significant contributions in Environmental Science, Toxicology, Biotechnology, and Microbiology. Her efforts led to an International MoU with the University of Miyazaki, Japan, where she successfully led a delegation in 2017.
She has also participated in numerous national and international seminars as a speaker and delegate, further strengthening academic ties and collaborations. Born to a renowned Professor of General Medicine at Madras Medical College, Dr. Azeez initially aspired to be a doctor.
However, destiny steered her towards education, fulfilling her grandfather’s prophecy that she would one day become a teacher. Her deep-rooted passion for learning and exploration has taken her to the U.K., South Africa, Australia, the U.S., Japan, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, enriching her global perspective on education.
